About Stephen

Stephen Alva was born in Los Angeles, California. His musical journey began after discovering Elvis Presley at the early age of 6 years old. Shortly after, Stephen learned how to play guitar and started performing at local convalescent hospitals as an Elvis impersonator.

He has since continued to develop an immense passion and skill for playing multiple instruments as well as singing. Some personal influences are The Beatles, Elvis, and Frank Sinatra.

Background Information

Throughout middle school, Stephen was involved in various musical acts while attending Ethel Dwyer Middle School. Some of these involve playing Tenor & Alto saxophone in Dwyer's Wind Ensemble and Jazz Band, electric bass for Dwyer's Commercial Music program, as well as double-bass for Dwyer's Full Orchestra.

Stephen is a recent graduate of Huntington Beach High School as well as the HB Academy for the Performing Arts' Music, Media, Entertainment, and Technology (MMET) Program. With MMET, Stephen gained plenty of performing experience though exclusive gigging opportunities such as the HB Mayor's Gala in 2021, NAMM 2023, and most recently, the 77th Midwest Clinic in Chicago, IL. Stephen was nominated Student Director on the student leadership board for MMET in addition to being a Student Producer.

In 2023, Stephen was nominated for OC Artist of the Year (Read more here) by MMET's Vocal Director, Nicole Kubis, who stated, “Stephen may seem quiet, but he is a force to be reckoned with. ‘Ask Stephen’ has become a popular phrase throughout our department as Stephen is always ahead in learning his music. Not only does he learn his own music efficiently and perfectly, but he learns every part in the show so that he can be of assistance to other students who need it. He is kind, patient, humble and helpful.”

For over 10 years, Stephen has demonstrated devotion and dedication in multiple areas of music such as performing, recording, mixing, and video editing. His advanced skill/proficiency is a result of pure determination and a consistent drive to always improve. Stephen relies heavily on being adaptable, detail-oriented, modest, and eager to learn in order to stay on track for future success.
